Finally Closing the Gap at the Wörthersee South Shore?
Today we take a look beyond the borders of our beloved Mur and cast our gaze towards Carinthia. More specifically, to the beautiful Wörthersee! There, intensive efforts are underway to improve the cycling network and close the often-cited "gaps." And that's music to our ears, isn't it?
Since 2019, Carinthia has been diligently investing in the expansion of cycling paths, especially along the Wörthersee South Shore. The goal is clear: to make cycling even more attractive. But as we all know, not everything is always rosy. Particularly on the south shore of the Süduferstraße, space constraints often pose a real challenge for planning. It requires brains and good collaboration!
Together Towards the Goal: State, Municipalities, and Tourism Pulling Together
And that's exactly what's happening right now! The state, municipalities, and the tourism sector are working hand in hand on various solutions. At a "Round Table," four concrete points for the next steps have already been established. That sounds like a plan!
- Alternative route options are being examined – because sometimes the direct route is not the best, right?
- The creation of attractive rest areas is also on the agenda. Because what could be better than taking a little break during a tour and enjoying the view?
A feasibility study is expected to deliver results by autumn to finally close the remaining gaps in the cycling network. We are curious to see what comes of it!
Cycling as a Tourism Driver
That cycling is becoming increasingly important for Carinthian tourism is no secret. Since 2019, cycling among vacationers has significantly increased. This shows that we cyclists are a real economic force! And the better the infrastructure, the more people will hop on their bikes – a win-win situation for everyone.
