The Hilmteich at the foot of the Leechwald was established as a fish pond as early as the 16th century and developed into a classic excursion destination for Graz society in the 19th century – people strolled along the shore, rowed in the summer, and skated on the ice in winter. The Hilmteich-Schlössl and the historic pavilion remind us of this time. To this day, families come here to take their rounds, rent rowing boats, or start walks through the adjacent Leechwald with its old beech trees. Just behind it lies the Hilmwarte, a 27-meter-high observation tower. The pond can be reached from the center in about a quarter of an hour via tram line 1 or along the bike paths along Hilmteichstraße – making it an ideal stop on the cycling route towards Mariatrost.
