History

The Burggarten was once the court garden of the Grazer Burg and reserved for the regional princes – gardening took place here as early as the 15th century. Today, the small area between the castle, city wall, and city park is a public park and one of the quietest green oases in the old town. Carefully tended flower beds, a fountain, and old trees create an almost courtly atmosphere; from the benches, one looks at the back of the castle and the remains of the historical fortifications. A passage connects the garden directly with the Stadtpark, while another leads to the castle with its famous double spiral staircase. Especially in spring, when the beds are in full bloom, the small detour is worth it – the Burggarten is just a few steps away from the cycling routes through the Stadtpark and is a perfect spot for a quiet break.
