The Botanical Garden of the Karl-Franzens-Universität has been located in Geidorf since 1889 and continues to serve research, teaching, and the public to this day. On approximately three hectares, thousands of plant species from around the world grow – from the alpine garden to medicinal plants to the systematic garden. An architectural highlight is the greenhouses opened in 1995 by Volker Giencke: The bold, light-filled glass-steel constructions house the tropical house, succulent house, and cold house, and are among the most remarkable modern buildings in the city. Entrance to the outdoor area is free. The garden is situated in the green university district of Geidorf and can be ideally combined with a bike tour through the villa districts – there are bike racks at the entrance on Schubertstraße.
