Styria cycles to work: your May odometer is ticking

Well, has the cycling season kicked off again? Good, because the “Styria cycles to work” campaign is back just in time for May 2026. For anyone who’s only ever taken their bike out of the garage at the weekend, or who still enjoys the never-ending traffic jams on Grieskai: now there’s an official reason to finally make the switch.

The principle is incredibly simple and quickly explained at steiermark.radelt.at. You sign up, either as a lone rider or, even more fun, as a team with your colleagues. Then it’s all about racking up the kilometres. Every journey to work, every journey from the office back home counts. And yes, even if you’re just commuting from Lendplatz to Hauptplatz – every metre makes a difference. It’s all about leaving the car behind for a change and getting some fresh air, instead of sweating it out in the car.

What’s in it for you? Apart from the fresh air, the money saved on parking fees (try finding a free spot at Mariahilferplatz – good luck!) and the daily fitness boost? You can win prizes. Yes, you heard right. Anyone who cycles regularly and diligently logs their kilometres goes into the prize draw. That’s not the main reason to get on your bike, of course, but it’s a nice bonus that might just help you overcome your inner sloth when it’s raining or the Murradweg seems a bit too far after a long night.

The campaign usually runs for a few months, so May is the perfect time to get started. Just imagine: you’re breezing past the buses at Jakominiplatz whilst others are still stuck in traffic. Priceless, that little morning triumph. So, put on your helmet, launch the app and cycle through Styria.

Have you joined in yet? Or are you still thinking about it? Show us your commute in Graz! Ideally with a snapshot of the Mur Cycle Path or your favourite shortcut. Post on Instagram or Bluesky with #bikegraz!
