Stay safe on the road: free e-bike courses in Graz!

Hello, dear BikeGraz community!

You know how much we love our cycle paths in Graz, whether it’s the leisurely Mur Cycle Path or the slightly more challenging routes towards Plabutsch. And let’s be honest, e-bikes have become an integral part of our cityscape. They get us up the hill in no time and make longer rides a pleasure. But let’s be honest: an e-bike rides differently to a normal bike, doesn’t it?

That’s exactly why I’ve got some great news for you: the Province of Styria is offering free e-bike courses! Yes, you heard right – free of charge and designed to improve safety on your motorised bike. These courses are intended for all e-bike riders across Styria and, of course, are particularly relevant for us here in Graz.

Why all this? An e-bike has more power, is often heavier and reaches higher speeds. So it’s reassuring to know how to react correctly in tricky situations. Imagine you’re on your way to the market at Lendplatz, the streets are busy, and suddenly someone brakes in front of you. Or you’re taking a bend on one of our lovely country roads around Graz and the e-bike feels a bit unfamiliar. In these courses, you’ll learn how to master your e-bike perfectly – from proper braking and cornering techniques to anticipatory riding in city traffic.

It’s all about feeling safer, whether you’re commuting daily or enjoying a leisurely ride at the weekend. This initiative is brilliant, because the safer we all are on the road, the more relaxed our interactions on the streets and paths will be.

Have a look around to see where and when these courses might be taking place. It’s definitely worth investing a few hours in your own safety. Then you’ll be whizzing through our beautiful city with even greater confidence and enjoying every ride!
