Who doesn't know it: You're leisurely riding your bike, suddenly something's dragging, the gears make noises that definitely aren't part of the standard equipment, or something just doesn't work as it should. And then you're standing there – with your bike, question marks, and the faint hope that staring hard might solve the problem.
For exactly such cases, our bike rental partner Banana Bikes together with the adult education center offers a Basic Bicycle Technology Workshop. And not just once: On several Saturdays in the fall, it's all about tinkering, trying out, and getting to know your bike a lot better.
The workshop covers the basics of bicycle technology and especially how not to stand completely clueless next to your bike when faced with typical problems. Together, you'll tinker and learn, so you better understand what's happening with your bike – and can help yourself with minor issues in the future.
Because let's be honest: How often have you thought "I could actually fix this myself" – and five minutes later decided that the bike will just live in the basement for a few days?
A little technical knowledge certainly can't hurt when you're out and about. And even if it doesn't immediately lead to a big career as a bicycle mechanic: If "No idea, I'll just push it" turns into "Wait, let me take a quick look," the Saturday was already worth it.
The workshops take place on several Saturdays in the fall. You can find all dates, details, and registration directly at the adult education center of Styria.
So: Learn to tinker, understand your bike better – and maybe just ride on instead of pushing it home next time there's a small problem.
