Schmiedgasse: The Cycling Ban Gets Serious from Easter Onwards!
Hey there, dear BikeGraz Community!
Who doesn't know Schmiedgasse? For many of us, it's a convenient shortcut between Hauptplatz and Herrengasse – or simply a charming piece of Graz that we enjoy passing through. But let's be honest: the cycling ban there has been a topic of discussion for quite some time, often leading to debates.
Now, however, there's news that affects all of us and that we absolutely need to be aware of. From Easter onwards, which is pretty soon, the cycling ban in Schmiedgasse from 9am to 9pm will be taken seriously and enforced. This means no more winks and "I didn't know" moments!
What exactly awaits us?
Clear Signage: New signs will be installed that unequivocally indicate the cycling ban. So, keep your eyes peeled!
Awareness Campaign: The city will launch a campaign to inform and educate us cyclists about the new regulations. This is a good opportunity to remind ourselves where we are allowed to cycle and where not.
Potential Fines: Yes, you heard that right. Those who do not adhere to the ban must expect consequences. This is annoying, of course, but also a clear statement.
The goal is to inform all cyclists about these changes and to ensure more safety and clarity in Schmiedgasse. It's not about making our lives difficult, but about coexistence – especially in such busy areas of our city center.
So, please be mindful if you're out and about near Hauptplatz or Herrengasse soon and plan to use Schmiedgasse as a route. Better to dismount once more or take a small detour than risk a fine. Luckily, there are plenty of other beautiful paths through our Graz, be it along the Mur or through the many alleys and squares.
