Hello BikeGraz Community!
Have you heard the latest news? The cycle path on Joanneumring, one of our most important recent additions to Graz's cycling network, is a complete success! It's February 2026, and we can proudly look at the first official usage figures, which are truly impressive.
The Numbers Speak for Themselves!
For the first time, official figures on the use of the new cycle path on Joanneumring are available, and they show incredible potential: up to 57,000 rides per month! This is fantastic and a clear sign of how much the people of Graz appreciate and use a safe and well-developed cycling infrastructure. It shows that our city is well on its way to becoming even more bike-friendly and establishing cycling as a daily mode of transport. The Joanneumring connects important points in the city center and helps reduce car traffic, making the commute to work, university, or simply to the next meeting at Hauptplatz even more pleasant and safe.
What's Next: 'Radhäuser' (Bike Houses)?
The positive developments continue! Recently, the city council discussed the establishment of so-called 'Radhäuser' (bike houses). This is an absolutely great signal that politicians are listening to our needs and are serious about expanding cycling infrastructure. Imagine: secure, weather-protected parking facilities for our bikes, perhaps even with small repair stations or charging options for e-bikes, just like we've been wishing for! Such initiatives would make cycling in Graz even more attractive and perfectly complement our network, which includes the Murradweg and many other routes. It's another step to strengthen Graz as a cycling city and make reaching destinations like Schlossberg or the university district even easier.
