Bike playgrounds for Graz: More fun for everyone!

Have you heard? Something exciting is happening in our beloved cycling city of Graz! As part of the Graz 2030 Cycling Initiative, which we’ve mentioned before, ‘cycle playgrounds’ are now a hot topic. Just imagine: dedicated areas where not only the little ones, but perhaps us grown-ups too, can have a proper play on our bikes again without having to worry about the Murr cycle path or the hustle and bustle of the main square.

These cycle playgrounds aren’t your average playgrounds, but are specially tailored for us cyclists. Think of small circuits, bumps, perhaps even little ramps where you can safely practise your balance or try out new tricks. Sounds brilliant, doesn’t it? It’s a brilliant idea, especially for families with children, to introduce the little ones to cycling in a playful way and boost their confidence on the saddle. But for us ‘old hands’ too, it’s a welcome change to do a few laps away from the daily commute and test our skills.

The idea behind it is clear: the cycle path network should not only be extended, but also made more varied and attractive – for people of all ages. The aim is to make cycling in Graz even more of an experience that combines fun and exercise. These new cycle playgrounds are to be rolled out gradually and will complement our existing infrastructure in a truly charming way. Imagine being able to pop into one of these playgrounds with your kids after a trip along the Mur Cycle Path, before heading home. A brilliant idea to embed cycling even more firmly in our everyday lives in Graz!

What do you think of the idea of bike playgrounds? Do you already have any ideas where something like this would fit in particularly well in Graz? Share your thoughts and photos from your bike rides in Graz on Instagram or Bluesky using the hashtag #bikegraz!
