Annenpassage Bike Garage: Future Still Uncertain – What Does This Mean for Graz Cyclists?

Share:

Dear BikeGraz Community!

It's February 2026, and we're eagerly watching the developments in our beautiful city. One topic particularly close to our hearts as cyclists in Graz is the planned bike garage in the Annenpassage. As you know, the Annenpassage is an important hub – directly on Annenstraße, not far from the Hauptbahnhof (main train station) and the vibrant city center. Secure and weather-protected parking for our bikes here would be a real blessing!

However, recent news leaves us still in the dark: While the Annenpassage is planning a fresh start with new tenants, the bike garage proposed by Schwentner remains under discussion, and its implementation is still pending. This means we continue to wait and hope that this important project will soon receive the green light.

Why is this Bike Garage so important for Graz?

  • Security: A modern bike garage offers protection against theft and vandalism, which is a major concern, especially in the bustling city center and near Hauptplatz.
  • Weather Independence: Whether rain, snow, or scorching sun – our bikes would be protected, encouraging us to use our bikes even more often.
  • Connectivity: The location is ideal for commuters arriving at or departing from the Hauptbahnhof, as well as for anyone running errands in the city center or simply cycling through the city, perhaps on their way to the Murradweg or Schlossberg.
  • Promotion of Cycling Culture: Such infrastructure sends a strong signal that Graz is a bike-friendly city and actively supports cycling.

We at BikeGraz are convinced that safe and comfortable parking facilities are a key factor in getting even more Graz residents onto their bikes. It's disappointing to hear that the future of this bike garage is still uncertain, but we remain optimistic and will continue to monitor developments closely.

What are your thoughts on the situation? Do you have experiences with bike garages in other cities or ideas on how we can convince decision-makers in Graz? Share your thoughts and experiences with us on social media using the hashtag #bikegraz!
