The Mandellstraße in the Graz district of St. Leonhard, this small but fine connection from Kaiser-Josef-Platz to Felix-Dahn-Platz, remains available to us cyclists – and with ever better prospects! After the city of Graz has already announced that the entire street will become a 30-zone, the next big news is here: A parking lane is set to be removed!
Now that's a statement, isn't it? Instead of parked cars, the traffic lanes are to be widened so that finally a proper bike lane can find its place. Vice Mayor Judith Schwentner has already outlined further measures. Things are moving forward in Graz, and we are of course very excited about it! Imagine cycling relaxed from Kaiser-Josef-Platz towards Felix-Dahn-Platz, without having to squeeze between parked cars and flowing traffic. That's music to the ears, isn't it? Especially in such an important connection, which, although not a major road, is a daily route for many of us. Sure, a little headwind seems to be part of the cycling network in Graz, but if a parking lane is sacrificed to give us more space, we gladly accept that. Who knows, maybe there will be fewer discussions about who actually has priority – us or the metal avalanche.
If you're already considering which new routes you could explore in Graz, take a look at our bike tours – you'll surely find inspiration for your next outing. We will keep you updated so that you can soon cycle relaxed through Mandellstraße. Perhaps just the right occasion to take the bike out of the basement again!
