Graz pays attention! – Getting along in traffic, it works!

Who would have thought that a bit more consideration in Graz's street traffic would be so well received? The campaign “Graz gibt Acht!” showed us this week that it can work after all when everyone looks out for each other a little.

Under the slogan “Graz gibt Acht!” for more togetherness instead of opposition in road traffic, the initiators – together with the Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit and the “Easy Drivers” cycling school – set out to remind the people of Graz how important consideration is. And honestly, at the beginning we weren’t so sure whether the plan would really succeed. You know everyday life in Graz, where sometimes it feels like everyone is fighting for themselves on the road.

But lo and behold: the campaign not only received a lot of positive feedback digitally, it was even out “live” this week. And who was there? None other than the mascot “Helmi”! Together with MeinBezirk a test was carried out in Graz’s street traffic. And the conclusion? Overwhelmingly positive! It seems the people of Graz understood the hint with the fence post – or rather, with Helmi’s helmet.

It’s nice to see that a well-intentioned idea generates so much positive response. The cooperation with partners like the Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit and the “Easy Drivers” cycling school shows that a lot can be achieved together. Maybe this is the beginning of a new era of relaxed cycling and driving in our beautiful city, where you sometimes nod politely at each other at Lendplatz, instead of just honking.

If you yourself want to experience getting along on two wheels, check out our RideAlong offerings. There you’ll find group rides or can offer your own – perfect for meeting new people and discovering new routes.

Cycling in Graz is just much more fun that way, isn’t it? Stay considerate and have a good ride!
