Three and a Half Years of Mur Closure: The Pongratz-Moore Bridge Breaks Records
If you want to cross the Mur between Kalvarienberg and Weinzödl, there was actually only one option: the Pongratz-Moore Bridge at the Arland-Gründe. 'Was there', I say, because this 'lifeline' has been closed since July 2023 – and without alternatives, as they say. It's quite something when you consider that the city of Graz simply closed this important connection. And now comes the kicker: When the bridge is finally completed at the end of this year, the construction time will have lasted over three and a half years. Three and a half years! That's quite a statement for a construction site that easily holds the record in Graz.
Three and a half years for a bridge that is the only way to cross the Mur between Kalvarienberg and Weinzödl – one wonders if headwinds in Graz are not only part of the cycling route but also of construction planning. Since July 2023, this important connection in Andritz, at the height of the Arland-Gründe, has been closed. For everyone who travels there daily, this is a real nuisance. A 'lifeline' is what it's called in the MeinBezirk article, and that hits the nail on the head. So, when the Pongratz-Moore Bridge is finally finished at the end of the year, take a look at it. And if you happen to be in Andritz, you can check out how it looks there. We are curious to see if the three and a half years of waiting were worth it. Stay tuned for updates! #bikegraz on Instagram and Bluesky.
