The 26th Graz Old Town Criterium – A Restart for a Styrian Cycling Icon
After a two-year break, it's finally time again on August 30th: ready, set, pedal! The legendary Graz Old Town Criterium is making its comeback – and not just as a warm-up, but as a full-fledged part of the Austrian National Cycling League, the Road Cycling League Austria. This gives the 26th edition of the race a whole new twist – and we’re as excited as kids waiting for Christmas.
A Piece of Cycling History with a Modern Twist
The Old Town Criterium has been one of the highlights of domestic cycling for decades. Between Schlossberg and the Mur River, it has seen many cycling stars speed over the pavement. In total, international and Austrian cycling pros have challenged this demanding course 25 times. But like all good things in life, the Old Town Criterium had to take a little breather.
Now, with its comeback, the veteran event is no longer just a crowd favorite but officially part of the Road Cycling League Austria. No more show races for invited stars – from now on, it’s the real deal with the best Austrian racers proving their skills on the 980-meter circuit through the historic old town and past the Burgtor gate.
The Course – Small but Mighty!
If you think the almost one-kilometer circuit on the tight old town cobblestones is going to be a leisurely Sunday ride, think again. Tight corners, cobblestone streets, and the Burgtor make this course not only a challenge for professional riders but also guarantee excitement and spectacular moments.
