Review After One Year of the Children's Bike Bonus in Graz: More Little Cyclists on the Road!

This is exactly where the Children's Bike Bonus comes in – and with great success!
What is the Children's Bike Bonus?
The Children's Bike Bonus is a financial subsidy of 250 euros that families can receive when their children are in the third grade of a Graz elementary school. This bonus is intended to make it easier to purchase the first own bike or suitable safety gear – because safety always comes first!
The impressive figures from the first year
- 2,641 vouchers were distributed to the third-grade classes at Graz elementary schools.
- 1,546 families actually used the offer and got pedaling.
- The bonus of 250 euros noticeably relieved many families.
These figures show: The Bike Bonus is a complete success! More children are rolling safely and joyfully through our streets – and that is a gain for the entire community.
Why is this so important?
When children learn to ride a bike early, they become safer road users later, who can manage the way sometimes without accompaniment. This, in turn, eases traffic, protects the environment, and makes Graz more livable. Moreover, cycling is great for health – exercise in the fresh air instead of hours in front of a screen.
But that's not all: Having their own bike often means more independence and happiness for kids. And let's be honest: Who doesn’t love having gone through their first own "steel horse career"?
A little look into the future
The city of Graz wants to continue and further optimize the Children's Bike Bonus in the future. There might soon be even more offers around cycling for the little ones – from bike courses to workshops on traffic safety.
